Was Bryan Cranston's Zordon An Original Power Ranger?

The upcoming Power Rangers reboot is taking a new approach in a visual sense, but it's also making some changes to the character's histories, including Rita Repulsa and Zordon.

There are theories that suggest Rita Repulsa (played by Elizabeth Banks) was actually at one time the Green Ranger, and somewhere along the way turned to the side of evil. A similar theory has surfaced for Zordon, suggesting he was, in fact, the Red Ranger. Zordon will be played in the film by Bryan Cranston, and he might have just confirmed the Red Ranger theory is true.

Cranston recently signed a copy of his memoir "A Life In Parts" for Power Rangers Megaforce actor Andrew Gray (via Power Rangers NOW). Gray played the role of Red Ranger, and in the signature, Cranston wrote "To Andrew. Happy Birthday! To a Power Ranger, from a Power Ranger. Be Well, Bryan Cranston."

That seems to confirm that the character was at one time a Ranger himself, and since it's to the Red Ranger, you can draw your own conclusions. It's certainly an interesting way to go and would give Zordon perfect reasoning to act as the leader to a new group of heroes.

"Saban's Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late."

Power Rangers stars Bryan Cranston (Zordon), Elizabeth Banks (Rita Repulsa), Naomi Scott (Kimberly/Pink Ranger), David Denman (Sam Scott), Becky G. (Trini/Yellow Ranger), Sarah Grey (Amanda), RJ Cyler (Billy Cranston/Blue Ranger), Emily Maddison (Rebecca), Ludi Lin (Zack Taylor/Black Ranger), and Dacre Montgomery (Jason Lee Scott/Red Ranger).
