Donald Glover Comments On Directing A 'Star Wars' Movie

Donald Glover might be co-starring as Lando Calrissian in the Han Solo standalone Star Wars movie, but when it comes to the idea of directing a Star Wars film, Glover admits that may be biting off more than he is ready to chew.

Glover made history on Sunday by becoming the first black director to win the Emmy for Outstanding Directing in a Comedy Series. However, directing a television series of his own creation, Atlanta, is an entirely different task from helming a film for a massive multimedia franchise like Star Wars.

"I would be honored, but it's a big plate, it's a big plate," Glover told Entertainment Tonight. "That's a buffet plate. I don't know if I'm ready for that yet."

The director's chairs on Lucasfilm's Star Wars projects have become hot seats as of late. First Chris Miller and Phil Lord were removed from directing the Han Solo in the middle of production and replaced with Ron Howard. Then Colin Trevorrow was fired from directing Star Wars Episode IX, reportedly over arguments about script rewrites. He was replaced by Star Wars: The Force Awakens director JJ Abrams, who will now co-write the film's script with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League writer Chris Terrio. Even before all of that, another Star Wars standalone movie with Josh Trank directing was pulled from the schedule entirely.

Glover already wrapped on the still-untitled Han Solo movie. Up next on his plate is filming the second season of his award-winning FX comedy series Atlanta. He's also working with brother Stephen Glover on an animated Deadpool series for FXX.

The Han Solo standalone movie currently has a 3.4 out of 5 ComicBook.com User Anticipation Rating, making it the twelfth most anticipated upcoming movie not based on a comic book among ComicBook.com user.
