As you would suspect with any newly-announced Star Wars title, there were a wide-range of reactions to Episode VIII being officially titled: The Last Jedi.
For the most part, people seem genuinely excited. However, there are a number of people who are nervously-speculating that it could mean the end of the line for Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), who has been referred to as "the last jedi" several times in the franchise.
Yoda was the first to do so. In Return of the Jedi, while on his deathbed, Yoda said, Luke, when gone am I... the last of the Jedi will you be." The reference was made twice in The Force Awakens. The beginning of the opening crawl read: "Luke Skywalker has vanished. In his absence, the sinister First Order has risen from the ashes of the Empire and will not rest until Skywalker, the last jedi, has been destroyed." And later on in the film, Supreme Leader Snoke said to Kylo Ren, "The droid will soon be delivered to the Resistance, leading them to the last jedi. If Skywalker returns, the new Jedi will rise."
Of course, as many people pointed out, Jedi is both singular and plural, so The Last Jedi doesn't have to just refer to Luke. Plus, just because it's called The Last Jedi, doesn't mean Luke will go the way of Han Solo (Harrison Ford)—though the last film gave more importance to passing the baton to the next generation (Rey, Finn, and Kylo Ren) than the characters of the original trilogy.
