Is Ewan McGregor Hinting He Wants To Do More Star Wars?

There are dozens of iconic characters when it comes to Star Wars. From Luke Skywalker to Han Solo, there are plenty of people out there for moviegoers to fall for. One such character is Obi-Wan Kenobi as the Jedi stole hearts as Luke Skywalker's master and friend. Alec Guinness brought the hero to life in the original Star Wars trilogy before Ewan McGregor landed the role for the franchise's prequels. Fans have wondered whether the actor would ever reprise the role for a Star Wars standalone, and it seems like the actor could be hinting he's interested over on Instagram.

Not long ago, McGregot took to social media to share a few images of his recent trip to Warsaw. The actor posted one selfie of him standing next to a bag he saw on sale. The item had a miniature Darth Vader printed on it with the text "Warsaw Jedi" printed on it. He also posted another picture of him standing next to a street display of lightsabers. "Ah!" he wrote, "The weapon of a gentleman."

Of course, the images have some wondering whether the pictures are a subtle plea from McGregor over an Obi-Wan Kenobi standalone. Last Friday, the first spin-off from Lucasfilm's iconic franchise debuted with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Next February, production is slated to start on a Han Solo feature, and fans have been vocal about their desire to see a Ben Kenobi feature.

Earlier this year, McGregor commented on whether he would be interested in reprising his now-famous role. "I've always thought there was a story to tell between my last one and Alec Guinness' first one. It would be fun to film that story now I'm older," McGregor explained, "I'd be the right age. I'm forty-five, Alec Guinness was what, sixty? I could do two of them (laughs)!"

"I hope that they're going to explore different genres under the Star Wars banner. And one of those could be an Obi-Wan Kenobi feature film. Or two! The Obi-Wan Kenobi Story Part 1 and Part 2!"

Looking at McGregor's Instagram, it is clear that the actor still has a fondness for the franchise that thrust him into international stardom. However, the pictures seem innocent enough. The actor is known for pandering to his legion of Star Wars fans, so the social media shares are likely little more than a fan-service pitch.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is in theaters now. Directed by Gareth Edwards, it's the first of the new standalone features from Lucasfilm and Disney, which take place outside the core "Skywalker Saga" of films noted by an Episode number. Rogue One tells the story of the small band of rebels that were tasked with stealing the plans to the first Death Star. The story spins directly off the opening crawl from the original Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. In that crawl, it read: "Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire. During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire's ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR, an armored space station with enough power to destroy an entire planet."
