Rogue One: Diego Luna On Star Wars Celebrating Diversity

Last night Star Wars took over Hollywood with the world premiere of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Fans were dressed up as their favorite Star Wars characters as actors Mads Mikkelson, Peter Mayhew (the original Chewbacca), Felicity Jones, Riz Ahmed, Diego Luna and director Gareth Edwards arrived.

Christian Bale, Michael Douglas, Rainn Wilson, Joss Whedon, Nathan Fillion, and Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi were also a few of the many excited Star Wars fans to grace the red carpet!

All of this took place underneath a life-sized replica of the iconic X-Wing.

In an interview with Variety, actor Diego Luna stopped to say a few words about how Star Wars celebrates diversity in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

"By celebrating our differences and understanding that those differences make us richer and stronger and more powerful we can do whatever we want, you know?"

The comments echoed the much longer thoughts both Luna and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy offered during the Rogue One press day last weekend.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story brings together a band of diverse rebel fighters to complete a dangerous mission. If anything, showing audiences how a diverse team with very different backgrounds can successfully work together to complete their mission is what we need to see more of in today's films.

From Lucasfilm comes the first of the Star Wars standalone films, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, an all-new epic adventure. In a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire's ultimate weapon of destruction. This key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is directed by Gareth Edwards and stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, Jiang Wen and Forest Whitaker. Kathleen Kennedy, Allison Shearmur and Simon Emanuel are producing, with John Knoll and Jason McGatlin serving as executive producers.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits theaters December 16, 2016.
