Bandits Aim To Steal BB-8 In New 'Forces Of Destiny' Episode

With the release of The Force Awakens, audiences fell in love with the droid BB-8, becoming one of the most lovable droids we'd seen since R2-D2 and C-3PO. As you can see from a new episode of Star Wars: Forces of Destiny, audiences aren't the only ones who want to steal the droid to take home with them! Check out the new episode of the animated series above.

One of the goals of the new series is to introduce a younger audience to the world of Star Wars, showing that viewers of all ages can learn important lessons about heroism from the saga. What makes this series stand out from other animated Star Wars series is the more traditional style of 2D animation, with recent series like The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels embracing the power of 3D animation to tell stories.

The animation itself isn't the only compelling element of the series' production, as the shorts have tapped the stars behind the characters themselves, with actresses like Daisy Ridley, Felicity Jones, and Ashley Eckstein voicing Rey, Jyn Erso, and Ahsoka Tano. Additionally, Lupita Nyong'o will contribute narration as Maz Kanata.

One of the series writers, Jennifer Muro, recently spoke with Den of Geek about the project and the impact Star Wars has had on her own personal life.

"Going into it, I want to represent everyday heroism and the heroic moments that shape these characters in different ways," Muro revealed. "Leia would handle a situation one way, Ahsoka another way, Jyn another way. That was the goal all along."

The project is aimed to showcase the everyday heroism that these characters demonstrate, in hopes of inspiring a younger audience to follow the right path when presented with challenges in their lives.

Princess Leia will also be featured in the new series, voiced by Shelby Young, as we'll see some of Leia's accomplishments around the time of the original trilogy.

Muro explained, "We've lived with [Leia] longer than any other character. It's about keeping true to her voice and to Carrie's voice."

The series will consist of two-to-three minute long shorts, with a two-part special being broadcast July 9. The shorts are only appearing on YouTube, for now, but with the success of animated adventures in the Star Wars world, we could eventually see more long-form storytelling.
