Harrison Ford Says It'll Be Weird Watching A Young Han Solo

Next year, Lucasfilm will give Star Wars fans another standalone film to binge, and it will tell the life story of a familiar roguish pirate. The yet-titled Han Solo standalone is slated to hit theaters in 2018, and it will see Alden Ehrenreich take up the iconic role. The newcomer will assume the character's mantle from Harrison Ford as the latter first brought Han Solo to life in the original Star Wars trilogy. And, in a recent interview, Ford did admit he think it will be odd seeing someone else take on the role.

Thanks to The Star Wars Show (via ScreenRant), Ford had a chance to do an interview with George Lucas. It was during the chat that Ford said he will watch the film as a fan, but he is prepared for it all to feel a little weird.

"Of course I'll be watching it as a fan, but it will be weird … it'll be a little weird … I've met the fella who's gonna play the younger Han Solo. Wonderful guy, very sweet, and a very good actor. So I'm delighted in the choice," he explained.

Fans learned that Ford had met with Ehrenreich in January when photos of the two grabbing lunch hit the Internet. The duo are not the only generational pair who may be worried about a character trade-off. The Han Solo movie will also feature Lando Calrissian, and the character will be played by Donald Glover this time around. The actor will assume the spot once held by Billy Dee Williams, and the pair were also seen meeting over food shortly after Glover's casting was confirmed.

Han Solo: A Star Wars Story is filming now under directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller for a May 25, 2018 release. Alden Ehrenreich stars as a young Han Solo and Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca in the era before Star Wars: A New Hope, before they met Leia and Luke and embarked on a galaxy-saving adventure. Donald Glover also stars as Lando Calrissian, with Woody Harrelson, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Emilia Clarke in as-yet-unrevealed co-starring roles.
