Han Solo Movie Seems Determined To Keep Its 2018 Release Date

With the upcoming Han Solo film having gone through a tumultuous few weeks, some fans have wondered what the project's current status is, and what effect that will have on the film's May 25th, 2018 release date.

According to a recent report, fans could very well still see the film come out sometime in that year.

BrickFanatics is reporting that the tie-in LEGO sets for the Han Solo film are slotted for an April 20th, 2018 release date. As the site explains, this unveiling of the film's merchandise could indicate that the film will still debut on May 25th, as there is previous precedent for it with Star Wars films.

"Despite the production woes, the release date is still currently scheduled for 25 May 2018, which would put the LEGO – and presumably wider – merchandise launch just a month ahead of the movie. This is unusual in recent years, but is similar to how the merchandise was rolled out for the prequels."

Another possibility is that the Han Solo merchandise will be released in April of 2018, but that the film itself will arrive a few months after. This would reflect the merchandising waves of Disney's other releases within the franchise, such as Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

The project's standing has been debated by fans for the past few weeks, after original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller departed the project due to creative differences. But with Ron Howard now steering the ship, it appears that a 2018 release date is still the goal.

At this point, the film being delayed by a few months doesn't seem impossible, as it would give the production a chance to bounce back from its recent woes, while still meeting the 'one Star Wars film a year' quota that LucasFilm has set. Fans will just have to wait and see exactly what date the Han Solo film will be released.

The untitled Han Solo film releases in theaters on May 25, 2018.

The Han Solo spinoff is filming now under director Ron Howard for a May 25, 2018 release. Alden Ehrenreich stars as a young Han Solo and Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca in the era before Star Wars: A New Hope, before they met Leia and Luke and embarked on a galaxy-saving adventure. Donald Glover also stars as Lando Calrissian, with Woody Harrelson, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Emilia Clarke in as-yet-unrevealed co-starring roles.
