Star Wars: The Last Jedi Rumor Gives Name To New Planet

If you're at all familiar with the Star Wars fandom, then you know the community is full of diehard sleuths. Longtime fans have had decades to hone their skills, and reports from sites such as Making Star Wars have become lifeblood to the fandom over time. With a new Star Wars film slated to debut later this year, fans are more desperate than ever to get inside reports about the franchise, but Lucasfilm has notorious for their secret-keeping abilities.

However, it doesn't look like MSW is ready to throw in the towel just yet. The site has had previous experience spilling details about Star Wars films, and an article posted to the site earlier today suggest editor-in-chief Jason Ward has a hunch about one of the new planets to be introduce in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Earlier in the year, reports surfaced from MSW which recapped several new planets fans would get to see in The Last Jedi. Ahch-To was rumored to feature prominently as the island is where Rey found Luke Skywalker at the end of The Force Awakens. However, there are other locations said to feature in the film, and MSW may have learned the name of one of the seedier locales.

According to Ward, the so-called 'Casino Planet' fans saw set photos of last year goes by the name Canto Bight, barring any spelling mistakes.

"While I do not know the exact spelling, I believe the planet to be called Canto Bight after having heard that name specifically several times from quality sources, always in relation to the subject of the Dubrovnik filming," the insider wrote.

Ward did warn the name could be a placeholder, but the editor-in-chief did caveat that the false lead was unlikely. "Generally when codes are involved it is fairly obvious it is a code as it would be called something like "Vegas" for instance. If there's some kind of pun here, I'm not seeing it. If I had to bet, the odds the Dubrovnik planet is in fact Canto Bight."

Star Wars: The Last Jedi, from writer/director Rian Johnson, is in post-production now for a December 15, 2017 release. The film follows-up and continues the story of the next generation of the saga as Rey, Poe, Finn, and Kylo Ren find their place in the galaxy and follow the legacy of Luke Skywalker, Leia, and Han Solo. Daisy Ridley returns to star as Rey, with other returning stars John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Peter Mayhew, Andy Serkis, Anthony Daniels, Lupita Nyong'o Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher as General Leia Organa. Benicio Del Toro and Laura Dern join the cast in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
