Woody Harrelson Describes His Han Solo Movie Character

One of the most influential Star Wars characters recently met his demise as the first installment of the new trilogy featured the death of one beloved smuggler at the hands of his Dark Side-worshiping son.

And though Harrison Ford wasn't long for the galaxy far, far away, no one imagined his iconic role as Han Solo would be so quick set aside after Disney purchased Lucasfilm and the Star Wars franchise. Little did we know at the time that they had other plans.

Now, in the wake of their highly successful spinoff Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the production company is going to return to one of their most popular characters in the untitled Han Solo spinoff movie, in which Woody Harrelson will prominently feature.

The actor has previously spoke about his role, which has been referred to as a mentor, but now he seems to be setting the record straight in his interview with ComicBook.com. Check out the video above!

"I don't know if mentor is really the right word, you know," Harrelson said. "I'm a criminal who he gets to know, and I guess, probably, I do have some influence on him. But I'm a criminal."

Of course it makes sense that the term "mentor" wouldn't apply to someone like Solo, as it usually carries connotations of a parental-like aspect in the relationship. For a character who hinted at the ability to betray one's trust at the drop of a credit, in order to preserve his own safety, betrayal isn't out of line.

But Han never did such a thing, despite indications along the way that he was more than prepared to do so. So maybe his "non mentor" had more to do with his actions than we know?

We'll find out when the Han Solo spinoff movie debuts in theaters May 25, 2018.

The Han Solo spinoff is filming now under directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller for a May 25, 2018 release. Alden Ehrenreich stars as a young Han Solo and Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca in the era before Star Wars: A New Hope, before they met Leia and Luke and embarked on a galaxy-saving adventure. Donald Glover also stars as Lando Calrissian, with Woody Harrelson, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Emilia Clarke in as-yet-unrevealed co-starring roles.
