The Walking Dead Fans Told FCC The Season 7 Premiere Left Them Traumatized And Sick

It's no secret that The Walking Dead is a violent show. Even those who have never seen the show can attest to the series' graphic gore following the show's much-anticipated Season 7 premiere. The episode made waves because of its shocking content, and thousands of fans were taken back by the NSFW nature of the episode. "The Day Will Come When You Won't Be" saw plenty of bloodshed, but it was the horrific scene where Negan brutally murders two of Rick's friends that had fans feeling nauseous. And, now, the FCC has released a few of the unflattering complaints they received about the stomach-churning premiere.

The folks over at The Daily Dot were able to obtain some of the FCC's tickets regarding The Walking Dead and its recent season premiere. While some of the complaints are lodged against technical issues about the premiere, many of them instead target the episode and its so-called 'torture porn' status.

"The AMC show The Walking Dead has transformed from people killing soulless animated corpses into a sadistic, emotional torture by showing people killing other people in the most brutal and sadistic ways," one fan from Virginia wrote. "The last episode of season 6 and the latest episode of season 7 made me very anxious and sick to my stomach. Watching ISIS behead someone isn't as horrible as watching this tv show."

This fan was not the only one who made reference to the terrorist organization ISIS. Another person from Minnesota wrote, "You don't show ISIS beheading people on TV, nor should you allow someone to be beaten with a barbed-wire baseball bat."

Other reviews accuse cable network of having backwards priorities when it comes to censoring content. Some fans wrote to say they'd rather hear endless swears or see full-on nudity rather than seeing such graphic violence aired all over the country.

"The season opener of The Walking Dead on AMC was beyond brutal, beyond sick and beyond evil," one complaint read. "I know there is a warning posted before airing, but kids can still see this. Watching a favourite character's (human) head being repeatedly pulverized into the ground by another human until there is nothing left is beyond comprehension. I find it hard to believe that this is allowed to be aired, yet 2 people having sex and showing even part of a genital is not. Absolutely disgusting."

Another ticket read: "The Walking Dead season 7 premiere has left my daughter and I psychologically traumatized! We are not the overly protective parents although we do monitor what our 12 year old watches, as should all parents. This show she watches only with us because it contains gore. But last night's premiere went far beyond what I ever thought was legal to show on tv. I did have our 12 year old turn away after a favorite character's head was bashed in and his eye protruding from his skull was shown, but it was too late and she was hysterically crying. As much as I tried to be strong, I myself couldn't stop crying. The intensity of a beloved character babbling nonsense due to the severe head trauma and with his eye out of his head, and still the camera on him while he's sadistically tortured was by far the most traumatizing thing I have ever seen in my 44 years of living."

Individual fans weren't the only ones who had complaints about the premiere's violence. The Parents Television Council condemned the episode, saying, "Last night's season premiere of The Walking Dead was one of the most graphically violent shows we've ever seen on television, comparable to the most violent of programs found on premium cable networks. It's not enough to 'change the channel,' as some people like to advocate, because cable subscribers — regardless of whether they want AMC or watch its programming — are still forced to subsidize violent content. This brutally explicit show is a powerful demonstration of why families should have greater control over the TV networks they purchase from their cable and satellite providers."
