Archie Has A Gun in New Riverdale Season 2 Trailer

The hooded gunman who took a shot at Fred Andrews is back -- and Archie has a gun just in case the two cross paths -- in a jarring new trailer for the upcoming second season of The CW's Riverdale.

The trailer carries over a major theme from the first trailer, released at Comic-Con: Archie Andrews no longer feels safe in Riverdale, and believes that the man who tried to kill his father may come back for Archie and his friends.

That sense of constant danger is apparently one that will resonate throughout the season.

"Season 1 was a murder mystery: it was who killed Jason Blossom?" executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa recently told ComicBook.com. "It was a crime that happened in the past. And until the very end, it was not like our characters were in danger. They were sniffing around a mystery but it wasn't until the last few episodes when you felt like 'Oh my God, something really bad could happen.' Season 2, it's still noir and it's still crime, but it's much more like a suspense thriller and you feel like our characters are at risk in a much more visceral way. So it's I think a scarier season in that way."

The series will also introduce potential roadblocks for the popular Veronica/Archie and Betty/Jughead romances in the form of new characters seemingly designed to break those up. Still, a shower scene in this teaser suggests that at least Veronica and Archie are likely in a pretty good place when the season starts (outside of that whole Archie's-dad-being-shot thing).

Riverdale's second season premieres October 11th at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
