Showtime Orders Prison Escape Series Starring Benicio Del Toro

Following the recent success of the Twin Peaks revival, Showtime is further investing in the limited series format - with some pretty big names attached.

The premium cable network has ordered eight episodes of Escape at Dannemora. Starring in the series will be Benicio del Toro (Guardians of the Galaxy, Star Wars: The Last Jedi), Patricia Arquette (Boyhood, Boardwalk Empire), and Paul Dano (Little Miss Sunshine, Looper).

The series will be based off of the real-life Clinton Correctional Facility prison break that occurred in the summer 2015.

The series will be written and executive produced by Ray Donovan's Brett Johnson and Michael Tolkin. Additional executive producers of the miniseries will include Ben Stiller, along with Bryan Zuriff (Steve Jobs), Michael De Luca (The Social Network), and Nicky Weinstock.

"We are all very intent on trying to tell this singular story in a way that shows the reality and humanity of the people involved," explained Stiller. "While the genre is a prison escape story, at its core it is a story about real people, some criminals and some not, who make some bad choices that have huge consequences. I think that's what's so compelling about this."

There is no word when the series - which will film later this year in upstate New York - will arrive on the small screen.
