Even though he has yet to debut as Erik Killmonger in Black Panther, actor Michael B. Jordan is onto his third superhero property in a few years. The Creed star has been cast in a supporting role in Raising Dion, a new series heading to Netflix.

Originally an indie comic book by Dennis Liu and Jason Piperberg, Netflix picked up Raising Dion in a 10-episode straight-to-series order. The hour-long sci-fi/family drama comes from Lie, showrunner Carol Barbee (American Gods, Logan), writer/producer Michael Green, and Charles D. King's MACRO.

Barbee also her hand in the production of a short film based on the comic property, according to Deadline.

"I started this project many years ago because I wanted to see more diverse representation on film and television and I'm excited to partner with Netflix, who I know shares that commitment," Liu said. "More than ever, we need more stories told from different points of view and my hope with Raising Dion is to create a cinematic experience for all families that will lift your spirits and make you laugh and cry."

The series will follow a woman — Nicole Reese — who has to raise her son Dion as a single mother after the death of her husband Mark, the character played by Jordan. The hard task of being a single mother to a young child is then compounded when Dion begins to manifest various superhero-like abilities.

Along with help from Pat, one of her husband's friends, Nicole must keep her son's secret from antagonists looking to exploit the child for their own gain.

"We haven't seen this type of superhero story before — an origin myth full of imagination, wonder and adventure, all grounded in the experiences of a modern single mother," said Cindy Holland, VP, Original Content for Netflix. "Michael B. Jordan is an exciting and dynamic talent, and I'm excited to see him, MACRO, Carol and the team translate Dennis' unique vision to television."
