'Riverdale' Season 2's Holiday Episode Finally Gets a Title

It looks like Christmas might not be so merry for Riverdale this year. Revealed today, season two holiday episode title teases a "deadly night" for Archie and his friends.

Showrunner and Chief Creative Officer of Archie Comics Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa posted the title page for the holiday script on Twitter today revealing that the episode will be titled "Chapter Twenty-Two: Silent Night, Deadly Night" along with the ominous question "Who's been naughty or nice in #Riverdale this year?"

The post seems to confirm that the holiday episode will have a Christmas theme and the placement as the twenty-second chapter puts "Silent Night, Deadly Night" as the season's ninth episode. While the actual airdate is still to be announced, that should put it around early December -- right in time for the holidays.

While there has been previous speculation that the holiday episode would have a Halloween-theme, this post appears to debunk that. And while details of the episode and second season's plot remains under wraps another of Aquirre-Sacasa's tweets may provide a hint that the "deadly night" portion of the holiday episode could contain a creepy urban legend.

Back in August, Aguirre-Sacasa tweeted a childlike drawing of Cheryl and Jason Blossom standing next to a tall man with a striped shirt and a Santa-like sack of sugar. In the drawing, the man is labelled "Sugarman." In urban legend, a Creepypasta-like "Sugar Man" is a supernatural creature who gets into people's houses and eats sharpened candy canes -- and sometimes people.

A candy can-eating murderer who may or may not be supernatural certainly is in keeping with what Aguirre-Sacasa told TVLine earlier this week when he said that the Riverdale holiday would be unexpected.

"It's probably not the holiday you imagine," Aguirre-Sacasa said.

What is expected is that the holiday episode will fit right in with the dark tone for Riverdale's second season and now we're all wondering who the night will be deadly for.

Riverdale returns on Wednesday, October 11th on The CW.
