Without much warning, Fox released the first teaser trailer for the new Fantastic Four movie earlier today. There's been a lot of negativity directed toward the film, despite what little firm information has been made available about it, but the trailer has given fans something entirely new to digest.

Whatever you may think of the trailer, it definitely provides some stunning moments. Here are the four moments from the Fantastic Four trailer that got us most excited.

The Thing Breaks Out

I don't want to pass judgment on the Thing's actual character design until we get to see it front and center. However, the idea of skipping the tortured transformation set piece scene, and just having The Thing burst out of stone fully formed, seems like a pretty cool idea.

Flame On

The first glimpse we get of Johnny Storm becoming the Human Torch is startling in interesting ways. The special effects are realistic, and low key. He doesn't look like he's made of fire, so much as he looks like he is on fire, and that's an interesting take. It's a little reminiscent of those parody Fantastic Four characters that appeared on The Venture Bros., but played straight…in a good way.

Young Reed

We get a glimpse of (presumably) young Reed Richard inventing things as a boy. This may seem small, but Reed's curiosity is such a driving force of the Fantastic Four's adventures, particularly the one that gives them superpowers, that developing his character properly will be vitally important. The look on the boy's face in this scene shows promise that they're getting it right.

The Four at the Brink

We have no real way of knowing exactly what this scene is yet, or what that pillar everyone is standing at is. The odds favor it being a portal into the Negative Zone, or some other dimension or realm of existence. That part really isn't important though. What we see here is the entire Fantastic Four assembled on the edge of the unknown, and if that isn't what the comics are quintessentially about (as well as family dynamics played out through superheroes) then I don't know what is.

Fantastic Four opens in theaters August 7.
