Welcome to Hill Valley.

The Butler County Times-Gazette reports that the city of August, Kansas, has temporarily changed its name to Hill Valley in honor of the thirtieth anniversary of Back to the Future, the first of three films that took place in the fictional California town.

The change takes effect only for the day, as the historic Augusta Theatre is screening the Back to the Future trilogy as part of a big anniversary event of its own -- it's been 8 years since they opened their doors. Tomorrow, Augusta will be back and Hill Valley will return to its fictional existence, wiped from the timeline like a sibling in a Disney World shirt.

"The theatre is celebrating its 80th anniversary and we all loved the 'Back to the Future' movie franchise," Augusta Mayor Matt Childers, who signed the declaration temporarily changing the city's name, said. "This is just a really cool way to showcase one of our greatest community venues."

"We have a clock tower at the end of our round-about and thought this would be a fun way to highlight our town, celebrating the 30th anniversary of the movie, and provide a little extra fun factor," added Michelle Spainhower, manager of the Augusta Theatre.

Spainhower said that besides screening the three films, they will host a cookout, a Marty McFly look-alike contest and parade, and pictures with a DeLorean.

That's heavy.
