Marvel Comics Says Its Marvel Legacy Run Will Break The Internet

An event that had been previously teased, Marvel confirmed this weekend that they'd be launching Marvel Legacy this Fall, a storyline that combines the current iteration of the Marvel universe with characters of the past. According to Axel Alonso, editor-in-chief at the House of Ideas, the story is going to include a reveal that is "probably gonna break the internet."

"That story [Marvel Legacy No. 1] functions as a preview of what's to come. It's chocked full of twists, surprises, Easter eggs, and let's just say, a last-page reveal that's probably gonna [sic] break the internet," Alonso told Marvel sister company ABC News this weekend."

Alonso went on to say that the reveal is a "big moment" and something they "continually get asked about." He reaffirms that the question being continually asked will be answered.

Legacy will follow up the massive Secret Empire event happening throughout the summer — an event already causing shockwaves throughout the internet for turning Captain America into a Hydra agent.

Written by Jason Aaron (Thor) with art by Esad Ribic (Secret Wars), Marvel Legacy #1 will be a massive 50-page one-shot featuring a four-panel fold out cover drawn by Joe Quesada, who currently serves as Marvel's Chief Creative Officer.

The series is slated to feature answers to questions regarding if a single universe can future multiple people wearing the same hero moniker — Peter Parker and Miles Morales both being Spider-Man, Tony Stark and Riri Williams both wearing the Iron Man armor, or Clint Barton and Kate Bishop both picking up their bow and putting on their quiver to serve as Hawkeye, just to name a few.

One thing's for sure, the big reveal won't be a death of anyone. In fact, Alonso says it'll have to do with resurrecting characters, if anything.

"None of Legacy hinges on the death of a major character at all," added Alonso. "A lot of this may hinge on some resurrections. If there ever were a time to bring back characters, it would be during the Legacy era."

While that'd be a good start, much bigger questions still need to be answered. With Thor Odinson coming close to wielding the hammer that came over from the Ultimate Universe during the events of Secret Wars but ultimately walking away from it, will we ever see Odinson worthy enough to wear become a demigod once again?

What about one-half of Marvel's first family: Reed and Sue Richards? While The Thing and Human Torch have been working alongside fellow heroes on the Guardians of the Galaxy and Inhumans, respectively, the Richards' have been stuck outside of reality since sacrificing themselves to piece together the separate pieces of the multiverse during Secret Wars; could they be making a reappearance?

Whatever the internet-shattering reveal is, we'll have to wait to see it. Marvel Legacy #1 is slated to hit comic stores this Fall.
