Earlier today, Marvel announced a new line of Funko Pop figures based on Telltale Games's Guardians of the Galaxy, including the first-ever collectible for Lylla, the love of Rocket Raccoon's life.

The Telltale series uses designs and concepts familiar to fans of the Guardians of the Galaxy films, but is not set in the continuity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and in fact brings in plenty of elements from the comics to tell their story.

"Lylla is an old comics character that has a very minor reference in the first Guardians film, so it was great to be able to have her play a major role in episode 2 of our series," said the game's executive producer, Justin Lambros. "And the undeniable cuteness of that Funko Pop! has really made our creative team proud, as Lylla held a special place in the hearts of our writers and designers. And Hala is a more recent comic creation, so we were happy to get some more awareness for this truly imposing character from the comics in our game and beyond."

The very minor reference he refers to is a note on Rocket's computerized rap sheet during the Guardians lineup scene. She was listed by name as one of Rocket's known associates, but no other details were given.

In the comics, Lylla was royalty on Halfworld, the planet from which Rocket originated. The pair of them had a romantic relationship, and also teamed up during the world's "Toy Wars," as Lylla was the scion of a toy empire. After the fighting stopped, the pair decided to head for space to go adventuring together.

She has not been seen in the comics since 2011's Annihilators miniseries. In the Telltale game, Rocket's escape from the abusers who "made" him came at the cost of Lylla's life. His attempts to revive her were at the heart of his journey in the game.

Lylla is an otter, and filmmaker James Gunn has said in the past that he did not think he would use the character in the movies.

"You'll have to wait and see on Lylla," Gunn once said in an interview. "But I will say I think a raccoon being sexually attracted to an otter is similar to a human being sexually attracted to a possum. I think it's very important that Rocket is the only thing like him, which is the source of his sadness and loneliness. An otter girlfriend could get really cartoony really."
