The Walking Dead Documentary Released: Series Initially Pitched As Alien Invasion Story

In order to celebrate the 10th anniversary of The Walking Dead, over a twenty-two minute documentary of the history of The Walking Dead has been released. To make the documentary, Skybound teamed up with Hyundai and Future US. The documentary features Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, as he tells the story of the early days of The Walking Dead. "I eventually came up with the idea of taking everything that I loved about zombie movies, the Romero movies in particular, and really kind of pour all of my interest in that genre, " explains Kirkman. "My mindset was always like I've got to figure out a way to get people interested in this. I've got to figure out a way to get people to actually support this, so that I can keep telling these stories." In order to get people interested and get the book greenlit, Kirkman initially pitched The Walking Dead as having a science fiction twist, where there was going to be an alien invasion. It was only after that book was up and running that Kirkman told the publisher the alien invasion part was all BS.
