The Amazing Spider-Man 2

, which opens in the U.S. in two weeks an is expected to come close to Captain America: The Winter Soldier's massive $90 million opening weekend haul, is off to a roaring start with the biggest international opening weekend of 2014, Deadline reports. The film generated an estimated $47M from 14 major territories, including the U.K., Spain, Germany and Belgium. Notable markets for Marc Webb's Spidey sequel were the U.K. and Ireland, where it earned $15 million. Deadline reports that's a 49% bigger opening than Winter Soldier in the territory. The same group of territories, Sony says, opened comparably to the first installment and well above Captain America: The Winter Soldier. $2.3 million from 50 IMAX screens made for a massive $47,000 per screen average. In Mexico, the film became the biggest opener of the year — 26% higher than Cap 2 — with an $11.1 million gross. The film will open in a number of other international markets, including Japan, next week before its May 2 bow in the U.S.
