While many audiences are looking forward to the next time their favorite superheroes will cross paths for an epic team-up, horror fans have a lot to look forward to with 2019's Glass, which will bring together the storylines of 2000's Unbreakable and this year's Split. Filming for the sequel is underway in Philadelphia, with our first looks at Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson, James McAvoy and Anya Taylor-Joy seen below.

What makes the upcoming film so exciting is how fans were completely unaware that they were witnessing a new chapter in a shared universe of films when enjoying Split.

Starring McAvoy and Taylor-Joy, Split told the tale of a man whose fractured psyche caused him to kidnap young girls, with each different personality having different motivations and mindsets, as the most powerful of those personalities being in service of "The Beast."

The final moments of the film included a brief appearance from Bruce Willis as the character David Dunn, who was the protagonist of 2000's Unbreakable. In the film, Dunn survived a train crash and came to the realization he had never been injured or sick throughout his life. The film ultimately showed that Dunn was, in fact, a superhero, with this film serving as the discovery of his powers.

Shyamalan has said that, when crafting Unbreakable, he intended to create a somewhat traditional superhero movie but found himself specifically excited to write a hero's origin story. Unfortunately, audiences didn't connect with the film in the ways Shyamalan would have hoped and he didn't get to expand on the rest of the hero's career.

Jackson's character in Unbreakable was a calm and collected mastermind who orchestrated horrible events in hopes of discovering someone impervious to injury. McAvoy's character in Split, on the other hand, was a much more primal character who used his supernatural strength to vanquish his enemies.

Whether Jackson's character will team up with McAvoy's to form a terrifying twosome or if Willis' character enlists the help of Jackson's to take down McAvoy is yet to be seen, but we'll surely learn new details in the coming months.

Glass is slated to hit theaters in January of 2019.
