If you think about it, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 couldn't have debuted on a better weekend. Why you ask? Because this weekend is also Free Comic Book Day, and Wil Wheaton wants to make sure you show up.
The Geek And Sundry star stated his case for why you should come out and enjoy the festivities in a new video, saying "Hi, this is Wil Wheaton and I am standing in my very favorite comic book shop in the entire world House of Secrets here in beautiful Burbank, California, and I need to remind you that Saturday, May 6th is Free Comic Book Day, and if y ou can't extrapolate what a thing is by breaking its name down into its component parts I'm going to do that for you." You can watch the full video above.
It seems Free Comic Book Day gets bigger every year, and 2017 is no exception. This year's list of free comics is huge and offers a variety of books to chose from. "We're thrilled to see the range of titles with this year's Free Comic Book Day," said Free Comic Book Day spokesperson Michael Moccio. "Free Comic Book Day is one of the most celebrated days in the industry. When so many people introduce family and friends to comics and their local comic shop for the first time, it's important the titles reflect that varied interests of people coming to stores. We believe this is going to be one of the best Free Comic Book Days yet and we're excited for everyone to experience it!"
This year's titles include books like Betty & Veronica #1 (Archie Comics), Wonder Woman Special (DC Comics), Secret Empire (Marvel Comics), The Summer Blast FCBD edition (BOOM! Studios), Avatar (Dark Horse Comics), Doctor Who (Titan Comics), I Hate IMAGE (Image Comics), X-O Manowar Special (Valiant), Rick and Morty (Oni Press), and more.
Celebrating its 16th year, Free Comic Book Day is the comic book specialty market's annual event where participating comic book shops across North America and around the world give away comic book absolutely free to anyone who comes into their comic shops. The event is held the first Saturday in May and is the perfect opportunity to introduce friends and family to the many worlds of wonder available at local comic shops. From superheroes to slide-of-life to action/adventure and beyond, Free Comic Book Day has a comic book for everyone!
