Marvel Comics Officially Announces Thunderbolts Ongoing Series

A new Thunderbolts #1 is coming from Marvel Comics in may 2016, the publisher officially announced after a week of teasers. The series will be written by Jim Zub and drawn by Jon Malin.

Thunderbolts launches in the aftermath of the "Avengers: Standoff" crossover storyline, which will see various Avengers teams clashing for the first time since the universe was remade at the end of Secret Wars. The team will be lead by the Winter Soldier, Bucky Barnes, but will otherwise see familiar faces. Moonstone, the Fixer, Mach-V, and Atlas all come back to the team of villains trying to do the right thing, alongside an unnamed mystery character, who looks like a young flying child.

Zub promises "big drama, big action, and unexpected twists along the way," and "a mission that's going to tear them up and get right to their core."

Interestingly, in the two covers (see them in full below) for the first issue, one by series artist Jon Malin and one by Mark Bagley, the characters look very different. Bagley's cover features many of the characters in more classic styles; the new looks on Malin's cover likely give a better idea of how the characters will appear in the new series - including what appears to be a brand new Fixer.
