Warning! Spoilers for Attack on Titan lie below!

In the latest episode of Attack on Titan, fans watched as several soldiers revealed their true selves to their friends and fans. "Historia" saw Ymir fully own up to her double-life as a Titan Shifter. The mysterious character transformed into a deadly Titan after her comrades found themselves ambushed by Titans whilst at Utgard Castle. As for Krista, the quiet girl rallied behind her friend despite being blown away by her reveal. So, as the episode moved forward, fans were somewhat surprised to learn about the girl's own secret past.

The anime's latest episode used flashbacks to fill out gaps in Ymir's relationship with Krista. During a patrol in the winter, the two girls were held back from their return to base when their comrade Daz injured himself. Krista chose to drag the man towards base in a blizzard, but Ymir called out her friend over the suicidal act. The elder girl said she knew why Krista was okay with dying, and the revelation left fans stunned.

Ymir revealed that Krista was actually a member of Paradis royalty. The soldier is the illegitimate daughter of nobleman Rod Reiss, and she is the last member of the Reiss royal family in the manga as of now. The girl was born to a servant who worked for Rod, so Krista was sent away with the mistress to be brought up. However, shortly after Wall Maria was breached, Krista's mother was murdered and the girl was forced to change her name. Still, the overseers of Paradis felt it was best for Krista to join the military, hoping she would die naturally from the work. But, thanks to Krista's close friendship with Ymir, the girl was able to become a surprisingly strong warrior.

In "Historia," Ymir said she heard all of the backstory when she went to steal food from a church. The soldier then said Krista dying would only given satisfaction to those who didn't deserve such a pleasure. By the episode's end, Krista is then able to approach a wounded Ymir after the girl shifts back to her human form following a brutal Titan slaughter. It is then that Krista finally reveals her true identity, telling Ymir that her real name is Historia Reiss.
