Naruto: A New Boruto Movie May Soon Be Announced

It hasn't been long since Boruto: Naruto Next Generations debuted, but the series is already a favorite with fans. The anime is now getting into darker, action-packed storylines now that its introductory period has worn off. However, that doesn't mean audiences aren't a bit confused over a new report suggesting a full-length Boruto movie may be underway.

Over on Reddit, scans from the next issue of Weekly Shonen Jump are starting to get passed around. The magazine's preview highlights one page about Boruto with a partial slice of text. The caption reads "movie information," but the rest of the phrase isn't visible. The text, "Uzumaki Report" can be seen as well, nodding to an anime corner which has traditionally announced new anime DVDs.

So far, fans will have to wait and see whether Boruto is really about to get a full-on feature film. Weekly Shonen Jump's entire issue should give more information on the teaser, but fans are already thinking the reveal isn't as dramatic as soon may speculate. Rather than a movie, many fans are thinking the 'movie information' referenced nods to a recap special or the original Boruto film.

Before the Boruto anime series was released, fans got to known the ninja through a Naruto movie. Boruto: Naruto The Movie was released back in August 2015 and introduced the world to Naruto's oldest child. The movie was set after Boruto had already been placed onto Konohamaru's squad following his Academy graduation, and the film follows the kid as he came to terms with his father's legacy.

The Boruto movie could be condensed into an TV miniseries since it ties into the Naruto sequel. The Boruto anime began when its titular hero was still in the Academy, so the Boruto movie could be chopped into a new arc for the series.

Of course, there is always the possibility that another Boruto movie is in the works. It took the original Naruto anime about two years to get a movie, but Boruto already have a reputation with fans since it acts as a successor. The franchise's last movie was released in 2015, so the industry is due to announce a Boruto movie at anytime. The Naruto movies normally came out annually, so the idea of a Boruto movie being announced just a few months into its run isn't all that surprising.
