When it comes to anime, Sword Art Online remains an ever-popular franchise for both newcomers and vetted otakus. The tech-friendly series got its start a few years back, but the industry let Kirito and Asuna quietly fall by the wayside after just two seasons. However, it looks like a third go at the anime may be announced soon.

Dengeki Bunko Aki no Saiten 2017 is set to take place this fall, and the event's website just posted a teaser about Sword Art Online. The site said its panel for the anime will include new announcements for the series; The event gave special attention to video game reveals, but the panel will not be limited to games.

The anime convention is expected to have several Sword Art Online presentations. For example, the event will air a look-back at the anime's most recent movie and celebrate the film's release on Blu-ray. The anime's cast, crew, and author are also expected to attend the convention, so everyone would be around should A-1 Pictures make good on a season three promise.

This is not the first time fans have gotten their hopes up for a third season. Back in January, fans who were lucky enough to attend preview screenings of Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale were treated to a special post-credits clip that teased a third season.

Over on Twitter, fans shared their stories with others. User @tuki0811 wrote, "I just saw the world's first test screening of SAO lol. It was so good I got goosebumps lol. Oh, by the way, season 3 was announced~"

Another fan who runs an anime blog called Yaraon also nodded to the new season of Sword Art Online. "'sao will return' is written in the end credits of Ordinal Scale. The third season of the anime is comiiiiing!"
