This Yu-Gi-Oh! AR Game Lets You Play Duel Monsters In Real Life

It's time to d-d-d-duel! No, really! Thanks to a developing AR fan-game, Yu-Gi-Oh! fans will one day be able to play Duel Monsters the way Yugi and Kaiba did all those years ago.

Over on Youtube, fans got their first-look at how a fan-made Yu-Gi-Oh! game could change the landscape of Duel Monsters. A user known as Microwave Sam shared a video of him testing an augmented reality game he helped developed for the HoloLens, and it will blows otakus away.

"The following is a fan-made video of a fan-based game. Yu-Gi-Oh! belongs to Kazuki Takahashi and Konami. Please support the official release," the developer wrote. "We went to Dolores Park in San Francisco, CA to give you a walkthrough demo of how Yugioh AR works! Basically, Kaiba sent me the new duel gazer to develop with, and he told me to make a video for all you Yugioh fans."

In the video, fans can watch as Sam gives fans a walk-through of how Yu-Gi-Oh! in Real Life works. The game uses AR technology similar to Pokemon Go for users wearing a HoloLens headset. Fans are able to install unique decks to the game, and then duelers can watch as their monsters come to life. Voice commands and touch gestures are used to pull up decks, summon monsters, and initiate different card moves. You can check out the game's full demonstration in the video above.

The much-anticipated AR game isn't set up for a full-blown public, but Yu-Gi-Oh! fans will be begging Konami to fully fund this project once word spreads. Sam also shared a new video demoing the game's multiplayer function, allowing fans to watch as two duelists wipe out each others' life points.

"Kaiba stopped by the Kame Game in the middle of the night to duel Yugi with the new duel disk. I created this duel for the fans," the creator wrote. "Fully working multiplayer dueling system built for HoloLens. You can duel anyone on the streets or online who has the HoloLens. Servers will be up next month with a ranking system."

This isn't the first anime-centric game Sam and his team have shared with fans. Recently, the developer shared a video on Youtube detailing a new AR fan-game he was creating based on Sword Art Online. You can check out the game's Patreon account here.
