Power Rangers: First Rumored Goldar Details

When Lionsgate brings Power Rangers to theaters next year, don't expect Rita Repulsa to be the only villain who makes an appearance. For awhile now, fans of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series had hoped another famous baddie from the original television series would make an appearance, and now rumors are starting to circulate that Goldar's part in Power Rangers will be bigger than expected.

So, watch out, Jason. Goldar is probably still a bit obsessed with destroying you.

According to The Wrap, the site is reporting that Goldar will be seen from the film's get-go. The winged villain will allegedly have his "molecular essence" scattered around the globe after being vaporized in the film's opening action sequence. When Rite returns to Earth to torment the Power Rangers, she does so to revive Goldar by recollecting him, and the superhero squad will only have a few days to stop her.

So far, there has not been many details about the villain's appearance in Power Rangers. The director confirmed earlier this year that Goldar would be seen in the film, but now fans are being told he will be a greater threat to the teenage heroes than previously expected.

If you are not super familiar with Goldar, then his name should ring a bell. The baddie is one of the Power Ranger's oldest enemies as he debuted in the pilot episode for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. His name derives from his armor which is made entirely out of gold, but the rest of his appearance was less than terrifying. Goldar is an odd-looking monster who resembles a demonic, humanoid ape with red eyes. In Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Goldar was often made into a joke by Rita as he worked under her, and the mockery only got worse when he began to serve Lord Zedd after they reunited.

While Goldar may have been treated more like a nuisance in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, it looks like his part in the live-action film will be more important. The bumbling baddie seems to be a vital piece of Rita's plans to successfully invade Earth, so don't be too surprised if Goldar gets an intense makeover. When images of Lionsgate's Rita hit the Internet, fans were stunned by her sleek transformation, so there's little doubt that the studio will do the same to Goldar.

"Saban's Power Rangers follows five ordinary teens who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove - and the world - is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so, they will have to overcome their real-life issues and before it's too late, band together as the Power Rangers."

Power Rangers stars Bryan Cranston (Zordon), Elizabeth Banks (Rita Repulsa), Naomi Scott (Kimberly/Pink Ranger), David Denman (Sam Scott), Becky G. (Trini/Yellow Ranger), Sarah Grey (Amanda), RJ Cyler (Billy Cranston/Blue Ranger), Emily Maddison (Rebecca), Ludi Lin (Zack Taylor/Black Ranger), and Dacre Montgomery (Jason Lee Scott/Red Ranger).
