Alan Tudyk Reveals Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Cast's Surprising Reaction to the Movie

The cast of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story saw the film for the first time Thursday night, just two weeks before its premiere and days after effects house Industrial Light and Magic finished post-production work on it. During a press day on Friday, the principal cast of Riz Ahmed (Bodhi Rook), Diego Luna (Cassian Andor), Donnie Yen (Chirrut Îmwe), Alan Tudyk (the droid K-2SO), Ben Mendelsohn (villain Director Orson Krennic), and star Felicity Jones (Jyn Erso) joined facebook live with director Gareth Edwards to talk about the film.
When asked what their final thoughts were at the end of a fan Q&A, Jones offered up that she simply "hopes [the fans] enjoy the film. We're very proud of it," she said. Alan Tudyk chimed in and revealed that the cast watched the movie together the night before.
"We all just saw it last night," Tudyk said. "It was our first time to see it, last night. I have to say, right after it was done, there was just this stunned silence, which for a bunch of mouthy people, really says a lot. It was really... I can't wait for other people to see it. It's a journey."
The silence and sort of somber mood might not sound much like Star Wars, until you remember that two of the films have very much ended on down notes, and they're largely regarded as the fan-favorites of their respective trilogies: Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. While this is the first major victory for the Rebel Alliance, the procurement of the Death Star plans, it also doesn't necessarily look good for any of the characters involved. All is as the Force wills it, though, as Îmwe would say.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits US theaters December 16, 2016. Directed by Gareth Edwards, it's the first of the new standalone features from Lucasfilm and Disney, which take place outside the core "Skywalker Saga" of films noted by an Episode number. Rogue Onetells the story of the small band of rebels that were tasked with stealing the plans to the first Death Star. The story spins directly off the opening crawl from the original Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. In that crawl, it read: "Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire. During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire's ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR, an armored space station with enough power to destroy an entire planet."
