Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi Easter Egg In Last Jedi Teaser Revealed

04/14/2017 01:38 pm EDT

Star Wars Celebration in Orlando gave us our first look at the upcoming sequel to Star Wars: The Force Awakens. We finally have a glimpse of the further adventures of Rey, Poe, Finn, BB-8, and of course the Skywalker siblings.

But while the trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi was loaded with a ton of awesome visuals hinting at future battles, trials, and confrontations between the new characters and their powerful enemies, it also references the past with loaded imagery and a subtle use of older dialogue.

Sure, we might be getting "Battle of Hoth 2.0" with Resistance land speeders going up against some First Order Walkers, but did you happen to catch the Obi-Wan Kenobi easter egg in the trailer?

When Luke Skywalker's voice over instructs Rey to breathe, and says "Reach out. What do you see?" Rey responds "Light. Darkness."

During that second shot, when it shows the destroyed helmet of Kylo Ren, Alec Guinness' voice is faintly heard in the background with a line from the very first Star Wars movie, A New Hope. Obi-Wan says "seduced by the Dark Side of the Force," as the shot closes in on Ren's shattered mask.

The trailer is going through painstaking efforts to capture the cyclical nature of the struggle between Jedi and Sith, and maybe Luke is saying that needs to end with the Last Jedi.

The Force Awakens did a similar trick when Rey had a vision induced by touching Luke's and Anakin's lightsaber, with Ewan McGregor's version of the character whispering something about "first steps."

The use of Obi-Wan's previous dialogue obviously has huge implications for the upcoming Star Wars film, and we are more excited than ever to find out what it means.

Did that trailer get you all hyped up to return to A Galaxy Far, Far Away this December? Let us know with your vote in the Anticipation Rankings below!
