The Star Wars Celebration panel for Star Wars: The Last Jedi did not keep much close to the vest as new details about the role of Carrie Fisher, details about Rey, and other information was released: like a new character.
Introduced just 35 minutes into the panel, Kelly Marie Tran was brought on stage to discuss her role of Rose.
"My character's name is Rose," Tran said. "She's part of the Resistance and she works in maintenance and I just can't wait for you to meet her."
Keeping her role a secret from fans was easy -- even as the plan was to let the cat out of the bag -- but keeping it from her family was more difficult, according to the actress.
"My didn't know for four months after," Tran said of lying about the role. "I told them I was doing an indie movie in Canada. At one point I actually got some maple syrup so I could bring it back to them so they thought I was really in Canada."
While the new-to-the-franchise member was walking the corporate line on what to reveal, writer/directo Rian Johnson did not hold much back.
He told the crowd one, really juicy detail.
"For me, growing up, one of the things as a kid in Colorado watching these movies...the notion that anyone out that, that any one of us can step up and turn into a hero," Johnson added. "That's where the character of Rose comes from...She gets pulled into a big adventure with Finn and Kelly just embodies that for me."
Along with these quotes, fans got their first look at Rose in the new film. Check out all of the new looks at we have gotten in the gallery below!
