Riverdale: How Will Cheryl React To Learning [SPOILER] Killed Jason Blossom?

05/05/2017 04:59 pm EDT

The sleepy, once-idyllic town of Riverdale was rocked by a major revelation this week after the months-long mystery finally came to ahead. Betty, Jughead, Kevin, Veronica, and Archie learned the chilling answer to who killed Jason Blossom.

Of course, we're setting off our spoiler alerts so make sure you've watched last night's episode before reading on.

After Jughead's dad F.P. was framed for the murder, the kids discovered Jason's high school letterman jacket with a USB drive hidden in the seams. The drive contained surveillance footage from F.P.'s bar basement where Jason was being held captive after attempting to run away from Polly.

Then the kids watched as Jason's own father Clifford Blossom entered the room, retrieved his mother's ring, and shot his son in the head. Betty immediately called Cheryl to warn her of the immediate danger.

But when the police arrived, they found Clifford's body hanging in their barn amid open barrels of maple syrup, which were actually hiding drug stashes within.

Cheryl was close with her brother, and his death has plagued her all season. And now that she knows, a whole new specter looms over her head.

Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa revealed to Entertainment Weekly how this revelation would affect the remaining Blossom twin going forward.

She's not in a good place… She loved her brother, and to finally have the closure of knowing who killed him, but knowing it was someone she shared a home and life with, as chilly as it might be, is devastating to her. The prospect of what faces her, which is a life alone with Penelope, is soul-crushing, so she's in the worst place we've ever seen her.

Cheryl's mother Penelope was also rocked by the revelation, but she has been a source of torment for her daughter all season. Though Clifford wasn't the kindest person to his daughter, he never expressed the levels of cruelty that her mother has.

Coupled that with the fact that her own father murdered her brother, Cheryl doesn't look to be leading any pep rallies any time soon.

Riverdale has one more episode left of its first season and a couple of huge questions remain: why would Clifford murder his own son, and what does Veronica's dad Hiram Lodge have to do with everything?

Hopefully we find out on the season finale, airing Thursday, May 11 at 8pm EST on the CW.
