Supreme is one of the best-selling superhero comics that nobody ever thought would make its way to the big screen, but is creator Rob Liefeld closer than any of us would have guessed?

Liefeld took to Twitter today to say the following:

Of course, getting interest from studios doesn't mean it's particularly close to being a done deal or even that Liefeld is interested in making the film (although his tweet certainly seems to suggest that he is). The fact that Alan Moore, who had an acclaimed run on the character, has had nearly all of his major American comics work adapted into film, including WatchmenLeague of Extraordinary Gentlemen and Constantine, probably helps. His name attached may be enough for a studio to at least take a look at a property.

Supreme was originally a violent, egotistical Superman archetype who seemed right at home with early Image Comics but was rebooted by Moore to pay tribute to the classic Superman mythos of the Silver and Bronze Ages. There are shades of Moore's Supreme in Monkeybrain's Edison Rex.

When Liefeld relaunched a line of comics based on his old Extreme Studios properties a couple of years ago, a Supreme series that was meant to draw from the Moore tales was released from Savage Dragon creator Erik Larsen. Currently, a radical reinvention of the series is going on from Warren Ellis.
