Despite some stiff competition on Sunday night from the Video Music Awards, Fear the Walking Dead's ratings held steady this weekend.

On the heels of a downed 3.9 million viewers in its midseason premiere last weekend, Fear hauled in a 1.6 rating in the key demographic overall in both weeks. 3.6 million people tuned in for Sunday's Los Muertos episode.

A 1.6 rating ties the series low but keeps Fear from dropping in the week to week ratings - a good sign for the AMC series when up against an event like the VMA's.

Sunday's episode saw the return of Ofelia, Madison, Alicia and Strand as they went out seeking sanctuary in a presumably abandoned hotel. It also followed up on the story line taking place in Tijuana as Nick Clark continued his journey away from his family with newcomer to the series Luciana, portrayed by Danay Garcia.

The Video Music Award's, Fear's biggest competition Sunday night, earned a 1.8 rating in the key demo with less total viewers. The two shows won the night with the VMA Pre-Show coming in third with a 1.0 rating and Family Guy and The Night Of's series finale rounding out the top five with 0.9's.

By comparison, the second episode of The Walking Dead's midseason two return had almost double the viewers with 6.89 million viewers.

"Fear the Walking Dead hasn't had the shocking moments The Walking Dead did at the parellel point in the series which was a huge draw for audiences back in 2012," says ComicBook.com's Walking Dead insider Brandon Davis on the ratings differences between the sibling series. "In addition, The Walking Dead had years of comics to pull from which were already getting fans excited and it was the only show of its kind. Fear the Walking Dead has neither of those advantages in 2016."

Fear the Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9 PM ET on AMC. For complete coverage and insider info all season long, follow @BrandonDavisBD on Twitter.
