Exclusive! Anthony Mackie On Possibility Of Falcon Taking Over For Captain America In The Movies

Anthony Mackie Captain America

Marvel Comics recently announced that Sam Wilson, also known as The Falcon, would be taking over as Captain America in the comic books. At Fandomfest in Louisville, Kentucky this weekend, Comicbook.com asked Anthony Mackie if he had heard anything in regards to if The Falcon might be stepping into Captain America’s shoes in the movies as well.

“I don’t know. I mean I’m excited about it,” said Mackie. “I think if it goes that way in the movies that it would take a long time, because there’s so many evolutions before that. You know, I’m excited to see Sebastian play Cap. I think Sebastian’s a great actor. But I love seeing Chris Evans as Cap, so I feel like they can go any way they want. I’m enjoying my part beside Cap. I’m in no rush to be Cap.”

When asked if they called him if he would do it, Mackie nodded his head in agreement and replied, “First up for duty! First up for duty!”

Captain America 3 is scheduled to be released in movie theaters on May 6, 2016.

  1. I have a feeling that Cap will sacrifice himself/be killed in Avengers 3, at the hands of Thanos. His movie contract ends after Avengers 3, and Evans has hinted at a desire to step out of the Cap role when his contract expires. I think a sacrific would be the perfect way for him to go if they decide to retire Evans (initially I was going to think that Stark would sacrific himself in Avengers 3, but now RDJ wants to do IM4).

Speaking of Falcon, still crossing my fingers that he will show up in some form in AoU. It would be cool if the Avengers are in the midst of a fight and Cap is in trouble when out of nowhere Falcon flies in and starts fighting besides Cap.

Yeah, I'm also excited to see Sebastian play cap, mostly for what that character brings to the role, the redemption angle they can take with it. It would be extremely interesting. But I NEED Mackie to stay on and for the movies to take a buddy cop angle. Have the higher ups at Marvel seen Stan and Mackie's rapport off-screen? Translate that on-screen with their chemistry, and you have gold.

Though I know it's not likely. All the movies have their tone, and the Cap movies have a very emotional, sad tone, which does fit Bucky's story well. I'd still love to see more comedy in the future. Hopefully we see some Falcon in The Avengers.
