5 Biggest Questions Star Wars: The Last Jedi Must Answer
While we can finally call Episode VIII by its proper name, Star Wars: The Last Jedi (and stop [...]
Who is (or are) the Last Jedi?
The big question everyone was asking a few weeks ago is still 100% unknown. is the "Last Jedi" referring to one person or multiple people? Does it mean one person early in the movie and another later? is it definitive or could it be changed? We do not know, and the movie will certainly answer this particular question for us (but expect to be teased about it until then).
prevnextOkay, for real, who are Rey's parents?
This question, along with the identity/history of Snoke, is almost comical at this point, it's been asked, theorized upon, and debated so many times. But it's still worth asking, and it's still probably the biggest single question in the movie. Hopefully it's one answered fairly early on (like during Luke and Rey's first big chat), so that it's not distracting fans throughout the rest of the movie.
prevnextWhat's happening with the other Force-sensitives in the galaxy?
One thing that wasn't really addressed in The Force Awakens nor in any of the supplementary material in novels and comics is what's going on with other Force-sensitives throughout the galaxy. During the time of the Old Republic, they were openly sought and recruited into the Jedi order. During the Dark Times, the Empire hunted them down, and presumably either killed them or took them in to become Inquisitors. We know Luke had other students, so at least at some time in the last 30 years he was tracking Force sensitives, but what about the last four years or so, however long he's been in exile? There should be others out there; especially now that we know so much about other Force-wielders that exist in this world besides the Jedi and the Sith.
prevnextWhy did Ben Solo snap and become Kylo Ren?
So, Kylo Ren was Ben Solo, and he was Luke's star pupil. He was brought up by presumably loving parents in Leia and Han. What the heck made him snap? Especially knowing he struggles to maintain his connection to the dark side of the Force, it's all the more pressing to know what brought him to it in the first place (besides just "Snoke," of course), and whether it's something he can never come back from.
prevnextWhat does the First Order (and Snoke) actually want?
And that leaves us with the big one: aside from carrying on for the Empire and the destruction of the New Republic - what the heck is the First Order really up to? One tiny hint we've gotten from the Visual Dictionary of The Force Awakens: Snoke was interested in Kylo Ren as an operative because of his affinity to both the light and dark sides of the Force. What exactly does that mean? Your guess is as good as mine, but we'll all find out, hopefully, in December.
