The Walking Dead's seventh season is a tightly knit secret. Everyone involved is being poked left and right for answers or clues but they've held it together (with a few slight slips) for the most part.

One piece of the puzzle is Lennie James. Although his Morgan Jones character's fate doesn't hang in the balance of Negan's game of eenie-meenie-minie-moe, the actor is still questioned daily about what's going to happen when the AMC series returns next month.

James has come up with a solution.

"I've kind of done two things," James says. "One, I've stopped speaking to people. And two, you have to get very single-minded about protecting this particular story line and trying your best to stay true to it everywhere. People will just whisper something in your ear when you're at the store or when you're at the supermarket thinking that you'll turn around and divulge some piece of information, but so far I think I'm doing okay."

People even try to prod James, one of the few remaining cast members around from the show's first season, about his own character's fate.

"It's weird because there have been a few people who have said, 'Well at least you're not dead, so we know that for sure,'" he says. "And I go, 'Well you kind of know that for sure because I'm not one of the people knelt down in front of Negan.' I mean, that would have to be a really big bat for him to swing it from where he is and for it to hit me where I am. So yeah, it's no great revelation. I at least make it past that particular situation."

Hardcore fans know that Morgan is heading to the Kingdom when the show returns, with King Ezekiel and pet tiger Shiva set to make their debut in the third episode of the coming season.

The Walking Dead returns on October 23 at 9 PM ET on AMC.
