The Walking Dead Showrunner Describes Season 8’s Break-Neck Tone

It may be awhile until AMC sees the return of The Walking Dead, but fans of the violent show are waiting on-edge for its comeback. When the series does return, The Walking Dead will usher in its eighth season, and its storyline will be a bloody one. War will finally come to the series as Negan's Saviors find themselves challenged by Hilltop, Alexandria, and the Kingdom. So far, the show's cast has stressed they know nothing about where season eight is heading, but there is one man who does. And, now, the showrunner is detailing why he thinks The Walking Dead's next season will be more breakneck than ever.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Scott Gimple sat down and shed some light on season eight of The Walking Dead.
"By virtue of the fact that the narrative has turned into one of pretty intense conflict, Gimple said. "It's going to affect the structure in ways that make it a bit more kinetic, a bit more breakneck — shifting away from entire stories in one episode, and sort of fractured over several episodes, with little pieces of each story coming together."
Later on, the showrunner went on to say, "Things are going to move, and possibly not have the kind of deep dives into characters in single episodes, but rather laying out the pieces as we go on."
When the show returns, its premiere episode will be overseen by a familiar director. ComicBook's Brandon Davis was able to exclusively confirm that Greg Nicotero would direct The Walking Dead's 100th episode which just so happens to be season eight's premiere. The visual effects guru and producer has directed other episodes of the series. In fact, Nicotero was the man in-charge of overseeing the season seven finale.
