The Vision Avengers Age Of Ultron

In this week's edition of Entertainment Weekly, out on newsstands tomorrow, Avengers: Age of Ultron director Joss Whedon addressed -- and confirmed -- reports that Paul Bettany's Vision will be a kind of modified version of J.A.R.V.I.S. -- and that, like in the comics, he will be created by Ultron himself.

Here's how EW described it, after revealing that, at least at first, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch will be working with the bad guys:

"There's also a fourth member of Team Ultron: the Vision, a synthetic, superpowered human designed by Ultron to show he has the power to create life, too."

Bettany, of course, has been playing J.A.R.V.I.S. for some time, and Entertainment Weekly put it to Whedon that it seemed unlikely his role as Vision, then, is totally coincidental. They noted that in the comics, Vision was created by Ultron, and that it seemed likely to be a result, in the film, of the villain experimenting on Tony Stark's own personal Siri.

"It's not coincidental," Whedon confirmed, but would say no more.

Before anyone could follow up with something even more spoilery, Robert Downey, Jr. joked, "By his own admission, Paul [Bettany] is very disappointed that he actually has to show up this time."
