Even though the film is more than a year away, a number of recent rumors have indicated that sometime soon, fans will get their first look at Warner Bros.' massively-anticipated Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Ben Affleck stars as the Dark Knight alongside Henry Cavill as Superman and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman...but outside of the cast, we know very little about the film.

So with a teaser seemingly always hovering just out of sight and a new round of rumors circulating online, we got to thinking: What would be nice to see in the first trailer for the film?

Superman Man of Steel

Superman standing for hope

Whether you liked Man of Steel or not (we did), there's the issue of Superman's "hope" thing.

Really, he wasn't publicly known for most of the film, and then when he was, he didn't spend any time getting to know the people of Metropolis. It's hard to know how somebody can stand for "hope" and be a symbol of inspiration when all people know about him is that aliens want him dead.

Which is weird, since the whole "This stands for hope" thing played a prominent role in the promotion for the film, and it seemed like it should have been more prevalent in the actual movie.

Batman in action

We don't want to see a Batman who's confined to the cave. Just because Affleck's Batman is grizzled and older doesn't mean we don't want to see him kicking ass.

In fact, Affleck's Batman -- the subject of so much controversy -- may be the thing to make or break this movie in many fans' eyes. Giving away too much (especially if he's really good) might diminish the eventual word of mouth from screenings and the like, but giving nothing will be a decision that haunts them later as fan enthusiasm will likely stagnate or wane.

Lex Luthor

We don't even know whether Lex Luthor has hair or not in this movie, in spite of dozens of set spies trying to spoil it. It seems like giving us a sense for what version of Lex we're getting could be a ton of fun for the fans.

The Villain

We've said it before and we'll say it again: Batman is clearly not going to be the main antagonist, so who is?

Lex is one candidate -- but if so, they'd need to explain how he can be a credible threat to both heroes (plus Wonder Woman, in whatever role she ends up playing).

It would be good to at least get a hint in the trailer, even if the teaser is probably not where they're going to reveal the full backstory to whatever it is they're building up in the second half of the film.

Wonder Woman

This is going to be her first time ever on the big screen. Let's get at least a look at her in action.

There's probably no solo movie coming soon that's more anticipated than Wonder Woman, so having her first appearance take place with Batman and Superman onscreen is dicey. You were always bound to get critics who think she's not getting her due by being introduced through the lens of a Superman movie rather than her own. The first time we see her, it should be suitably awesome to help allay those fears.
