Anthony Mackie, Hayley Atwell, Idris Elba Confirmed For Avengers: Age of Ultron

Anthony Mackie, Hayley Atwell, and Idris Elba have been confirmed as appearing in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

The confirmation comes from the new Avengers: Age of Ultron poster released on Tuesday. While not top-billed, the three actors’ names were including in the cast list as the bottom of the poster.

Mackie, who plays the Falcon, has been rumored to appear at the end of the film as part of a new team of Avengers led by Captain America, leading into Captain America: Civil War. It seems unlike Marvel to spoil that big reveal so early, so it’s possible that this means the Falcon will appear during the main story of the film, if only briefly. He and Captain America were going to try to find Bucky Barnes at the end of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, so, if nothing else, perhaps Falcon will give Cap and update on that front while Captain America is busy keeping the world safe in S.H.I.E.L.D.’s absence.

Atwell was previously confirmed as reprising her role as Agent Peggy Carter for a flashback scene in Ant-Man, but her addition to Avengers: Age of Ultron was previously unknown. Whether she will appear in a flashback scene, or if this confirms certain fan theories about time travel in Avengers: Age of Ultron, remains to be seen.

Idris Elba had previously let slip that he would be playing Heimdall in Avengers: Age of Ultron, much to director Joss Whedon’s chagrin, but what role the sentry of the Bifrost will play in the film is still unknown.

Avengers: Age of Ultron opens May 1.

  1. I have a theory that Wanda puts the whammy on the heroes at some point, making them beleive they are at some other point in their lives, either to torture them or pacify them. So I'd imagine that Steve will see Peggy during this event, eiher reliving a past scene or believing that he's still in the past with her and living a happy life.

As for Heimdall, I have no idea. Maybe he's just in it briefly to help shuttle Thor to Earth.

  2. Thanos, at some point, has to start collecting his Gems.  It would be awesome to see him crash the Bridge and snatch up the Gem.

  3. So we have Agent Carter crashing into several MCU movies but we can't have Coulson or Agents of SHIELD to crash into MCU movies? Double standards.

  4. I suspect she has the ability to envoke visions in people.  So she zaps different people having different effects.  Zapping Steve might show him a life he could have had if he had never been frozen.  I suspect what she shows Banner is a vision of the other Avengers plotting behind his back and doubting him causing the transformation into the Hulk not under normal circumstance and thus the fight with the HB armour.  The fallout of his vision is extra bad, because well the presence of the HB suit proves that Banner is not just paranoid.
