John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein spoke with NPR to promote their soon-to-be-released Vacation reboot, which they co-wrote and co-directed. During the interview, they were asked about penning Marvel's upcoming Spider-Man reboot, that will star Tom Holland (The Impossible) as a high school-aged Peter Parker/Spidey.

Daley: We can finally acknowledge that.

Goldstein: We've been saying no comment for the last week.

Daley: This is the first time that we can say that we are writing it.

Goldstein: We're thrilled.

Daley: ... He's a sharp kid and witty and kind of deals with the fact that he's an outcast and a geek through humor. It is sort of the safety net for geeks like us, so I think we can totally relate to where he's coming from. As well as the superpowers, which we also have.

Daley mastered the ins and outs of being an outcast on NBC's short-lived television series Freaks and Geeks, which he played high school freshman Sam Weir. If he can bring some of that experience to the latest Spider-Man reboot we might finally get the proper Webhead film adaptation we've been dying for.

Holland's Spider-Man/Peter Parker will make a cameo in Captain America: Civil War, which will arrive on May 6, 2016. He'll then star in the Jon Watts-directed solo Spider-Man movie to be released on July 28, 2017.
