CBS is adding a chilling new show to its 2016 summer schedule. The network announced that it has picked up American Gothic, a new television series produced by Stephen Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment.

CBS describes American Gothic as a murder mystery set in Boston, featuring a prominent family trying to move past a "chilling discovery that links their recently deceased patriarch to a string of murders spanning decades." One of the surviving family members might also have been involved with the murders, leading to suspicion growing amongst the family members. The series will run 13 one hour episodes beginning next summer.

American Gothic is written by Corinne Brinkerhoff, who is best known for her work on The Good Wife and Jane the Virgin. Brinkerhoff will executive produce the series along with Justin Falvey, Darryl Frank, and James Frey.

Amblin Entertainment and CBS previously teamed up for Extant, a science fiction series starring Halle Berry that ended last month after two seasons, and Under the Dome, a television adaptation of the acclaimed Stephen King novel. Amblin also produced the new ABC series The Whispers and Fox's TV adaptation of Minority Report.

American Gothic joins a crowded summer schedule for CBS, which includes a second season of Zoo, based on the James Patterson novel, the new "comic-thriller" BrainDead and the popular reality competition Big Brother.
