Gal Gadot Says Sexuality Is Part Of Wonder Woman's Power

In the latest issue of Empire magazine (via MovieWeb), director Zack Snyder discusses why he chose to include Wonder Woman in Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice and actress Gal Gadot provides some details on she's approaching the character Batman V. Superman and her solo film.

Marvel Studios patiently set up The Avengers with solo films for most of their heroes, but Snyder didn't want to delay the inevitable team-up. "It was incredibly organic how Wonder Woman came into the story," Snyder tells Empire. "The whole concept came of, 'Let's not save anything. Let's try it all.' Then Wonder Woman's entrance made us realize we were much closer to the Justice League than we thought. We realized we were one movie away."

Snyder also reveals in the article that Wonder Woman is 5,000-years-old, and Gadot says Wonder Woman has taken some time off from being a superhero when Dawn of Justice begins. "Because she's seen it all, she has seen what humans can do, so it was very hard for her to come back and fight," Gadot shared. "They have the same attitude. Although when she is Diana she tries to blend in, she is not too outgoing. I don't want people to think she is perfect. She can be naughty."

A large portion of the Wonder Woman solo film will take place in the past and it will use humor to address how unfairly women were treated long-ago. "Her sexuality is part of her power, but she is also a feminist icon. Gender has been a hot topic, so it is very timely to bring her back," Gadot explained. "The way we have approached it, especially in the stand alone movie, that is definitely there. Looking back and doing an origin story - and it is a period piece - see the role of women through history. There is a great source of humour in that now. It is so unbelievable you can't even fathom it. You are still making a statement, but having some fun with it."

Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice opens March 25, 2016. Wonder Woman will hit theaters June 23, 2017.

Too bad eating something isn't also part of her power. She looks like she's about to fall over in every shot shown of the WW teaser and every BvS trailer!

  1. Since when do people NOT know her origin story?? I think this is just an excuse to ignore source material and do their own thing.

  2. You might wanna  check out the 1970s TV show or the animated wonder Woman movie. Both do quite a good job at givn gher origina story outside the comic book world, without tarnishing the souce material.
