When Daisy Ridley was set to audition for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, she probably didn't know she'd be jumping right into one of the most intense, emotional scenes in the movie. The relative newcomer actress, as it turned out, had everything director J.J. Abrams was looking for.

"What we were looking for was someone new. This character needed to be vulnerable and tough, sweet and terrified. And to find someone that no one knew who could do all these things took a lot of looking," he says in a special features clip from the Blu-ray that debuted on Buzzfeed. "It wasn't until we found Daisy that we just felt like she was capable of doing all of these things this character required.

She read for the role by doing the scene in which Kylo Ren telepathically interrogates her, using the Force to enter her mind.

"She just blew my mind," he said. "She's reaching this depth of struggle, and tears are streaming down her face. I though, 'This is unbelievable.'"

The full behind-the-scenes documentary hits on the home release, available on digital HD on Friday April, 1 and Blu-ray/DVD on Tuesday, April 5.
