After having already passed Man of Steel at the global box office thanks to huge international numbers, Zack Snyder's Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice also managed to blow past Fox/Marvel's Deadpool this weekend.

At the domestic box office, two consecutive weeks of significant drops for Batman V Superman has many forecasters thinking that Deadpool's stratospheric $380 million at the domestic box office might be out of reach for the DC team-up epic, but a massive opening weekend and the popularity of Superman and Batman as global entertainment icons have given the film almost $500 million internationally already. That, with its current $296 at the North American box office, tallies up to $783,485,542 -- about $28 million more than Deadpool has made around the world.

After surpassing Deadpool's $755 million, Batman V Superman also passed The Amazing Spider-Man ($758M), Guardians of the Galaxy ($773M), and the original Star Wars ($775M).

In passing Man of Steel's domestic total, Batman V Superman becomes the highest-grossing Superman film on record, but it's unlikely to touch The Dark Knight or The Dark Knight Rises, both of which grossed over $1 billion globally. Current estimates are that the movie will make between $800 million and $1 billion at the global box office.

If the weekend's numbers are adjusted upwards, the film could also have passed Spider-Man 2, which is currently sitting just above Batman V Superman with $783.8 million. If the numbers stay more or less the same, it will almost certainly cross that number tomorrow.

The film reportedly cost about $400 million to make between its production budget and its marketing budget, so it's long been said that the studio was hoping for close to $1 billion worldwide from Batman V Superman, but that it would take only about $800 million to make the film technically profitable. It's not considered likely to reach the $1 billion mark, but the odds are good that the film will cross $800 million around midweek, and that by the end of next weekend it will be right around the $821 million at the global box office that Spider-Man made.
