If you happened to be in New York or Toronto during the spring of 2015 — right before filming commenced on David Ayer's Suicide Squad — and heard a haunting laugh coming from someone suspiciously resembling Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman and Oscar-winning actor, Jared Leto, there's a good chance it was him practicing his Joker laugh.

"I worked on the laugh walking around the streets of New York and Toronto, and I kinda would walk around the streets and see what laughs would get under people's skin," Leto told the hosts of CNBC's Squawk Box. "You know when you hear someone laugh at a restaurant? It's a little jarring. I tried them out. And I kind of got to a place where I would laugh and people are always turning around like, 'Who is this creepy guy behind me?'"

It feels good to be bad…Assemble a team of the world's most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government's disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren't picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it's every man for himself?

Suicide Squad hits theaters August 5, 2016.
