In an interview with BadTaste.it during the Conjuring 2: The Enfield Case, director James Wan was naturally asked about the DC Cinematic Universe. The director comes into it officially with Aquaman, the feature film he'll be helming for a July 27, 2018 release, though he's already done some work on the movie, including coordinating some story setup with Zack Snyder and the crew working on Justice League, which will debut some 8 months prior to the King of the Seas' solo film.

Wan was asked specifically what he thought of the backlash against Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and how he felt that impacted his job going forward.

"I think it's a world that is so difficult to control, and always expectations of fans are out of this world, right? No pun intended. I know how hard it is, from making Conjuring 2, how much anticipation there is just from the first movie. I think you do the best you can, and tell the best story you can," Wan said.

The director seemed to dance somewhat carefully around the answer, but has no doubt been asked similar questions throughout the course of this press tour. While he can't give anyone details on how Aquaman will differ from the Snyder films, he did say that Zack Snyder, who he's friends with, is "being very respectful" of his own plans for the character.

Aquaman will be the second post-Justice League DC movie, after The Flash, which is still searching for a replacement director. That July 2018 will be a superhero extravaganza, with a Marvel Studios and 20th Century Fox movie each before WB's underwater adventure. See where they all land on our full franchise movie schedule.
