The Season Two premiere title for Supergirl is unlikely to provide any insight into who's in that rocket, but it's certainly familiar to fans of the character.
Series star David Harewood, who plays DEO Chief Hank Henshaw (also J'Onn J'Onzz, the Martian Manhunter) in the series, shared a small piece of the title page for Season Two's first script on Instagram today, revealing the title as "The Adventures of Supergirl."
That, of course, is also the name of the digital-first comic book from DC that features an expanded version of the TV Supergirl universe.
The Adventures of Superman was one of the first other-media adaptations of comic books, running on the radio from 1940 until 1951. From 1952-1959, there was a TV series by the same name, followed by The New Adventures of Superman animated series from 1966-1971. In 1993, a TV series called Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman launched, and between those last two series, Superman (the comic book) was relaunched with a new #1 following the events of John Byrne's 1986 miniseries The Man of Steel, and the original Superman comic was retitled to The Adventures of Superman and continued under that name for almost 20 years. There was also a TV series titled The Adventures of Superboy from 1988 to 1992.
Of course, there are those who have been hoping the rocket seen in the Season One finale would have either Power Girl or another Earth's Supergirl inside of it. If that were the case, "The Adventures of Supergirl" being the title of a single episode could imply there are different Supergirls having different adventures therein. that's quite a stretch, though.
Supergirl returns to the airwaves in October, moving from CBS, where it debuted last year, to The CW, where it will play a larger role in the shared DC Universe of Arrow, The Flash, and DC's Legends of Tomorrow.
